All-on-4 Dental Implants FAQ

Everything you need to know about All-on-4 dental implants in Mexico. These are the most common questions we receive from patients planning their treatment.

Cost & Insurance

How much do All-on-4 implants cost in Mexico?

All-on-4 dental implants in Mexico cost $8,000-$15,000 per arch, compared to $20,000-$40,000 in the United States. Full-mouth treatment (both arches) runs $16,000-$30,000. See our detailed cost guide for a complete breakdown.

Will my US dental insurance cover treatment in Mexico?

Most US dental insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits that apply to Mexico treatment. You pay the clinic directly, then file a claim for partial reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan — typically 50% of the allowed amount up to your annual maximum ($1,500-$3,500). See our insurance claim guide for step-by-step filing instructions.

Does Medicare cover All-on-4 implants?

No. Medicare does not cover dental implants or any dental procedure. Medicare Advantage plans may offer limited dental benefits, but these rarely cover implant treatment.

Procedure & Candidacy

Am I a candidate for All-on-4?

Most adults with significant tooth loss or severe decay are candidates. You need adequate jawbone density (the angled posterior implants help with this). A panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan will determine your eligibility. Smokers and patients with uncontrolled diabetes may need additional evaluation.

Do I need bone grafting?

In most cases, no. The All-on-4 technique was designed to avoid bone grafting by using angled implants that maximize available bone. Only patients with severe bone loss may need grafting or an alternative approach.

How long is the surgery?

The surgical procedure takes 2-3 hours per arch. If you're treating both upper and lower arches, plan for 4-5 hours total. You receive temporary teeth the same day.

Is it painful?

Most patients report less pain than expected. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation. Post-operative pain is managed with prescribed medication and typically subsides within 3-5 days.

Recovery & Results

How long is the recovery?

Most patients return to work in 3-5 days. Complete osseointegration (implant fusion with bone) takes 3-6 months. You'll wear temporary teeth during this period and return to Mexico for your final permanent prosthesis. See our recovery guide for a day-by-day timeline.

How long do All-on-4 implants last?

The implants themselves can last a lifetime with proper care. The prosthesis (the teeth) typically lasts 10-15 years before needing replacement, depending on material and wear. Zirconia lasts longer than acrylic.

What if an implant fails?

Implant failure rates are very low (2-6% per implant). Reputable clinics offer warranties covering 5-10 years. If an implant fails, it can usually be replaced. Discuss warranty terms before treatment.

Travel & Logistics

How many trips to Mexico do I need?

Two trips: (1) The initial surgery — 5-7 days, and (2) Final prosthesis placement — 2-3 days, approximately 4-6 months later. Some patients choose to do both procedures during an extended stay.

What should I bring?

See our border crossing checklist for a complete packing list. Essentials include: passport, X-rays, medications, comfortable clothing, and insurance information.

Is it safe to travel to Mexico for dental work?

Los Algodones is extremely safe for dental tourists. It's a small town that depends almost entirely on dental tourism — crime against tourists is virtually nonexistent. The town is walking distance from the US border, and most clinics offer transportation assistance.
